How to move over a Carrot website to REsimpli?

Answer:

Whenever you migrate a website from one platform to another, Google reassesses the website, so you should migrate adequately to ensure you retain all SEO rankings.

Move a Carrot website to REsimpli by following these steps:

  1. Go to Carrot. Click on the ‘Content’ > ‘Posts’ > ‘All Posts’ inside the dashboard.

2. See what’s ranking on top, and you want to ensure that you won't lose that ranking when you migrate into the website.

3. Open the top-ranking content. Some things must be the same on both websites;

  • Title

  • Image

  • Alternative Text

  • Content of the website

  • Headers - if the portion of the content is Header 2 on Carrot, it should also be the same on REsimpli.

  • URL - the URL slugs

  • Content of the blog posts

  • Form - if you have a form on Carrot, keep it in the REsimpli post. It should also have the same texts. Note: you can always edit your forms on REsimpli.

  • Meta Title - essential.

  • Meta Description - essential. Make sure all the information here is on the REsimpli website.

4. Go over to the REsimpli website.

5. In the main dashboard, click ‘Content’ > ‘Posts’ > All Posts.

6. Open the top-ranking post - the same as on the Carrot website.

7. Compare the contents of the REsimpli vs. Carrot website. All of these items must be the same:

  • Title

  • Image

  • Alternative Text

  • Content of the website

  • Headers - if the portion of the content is Header 2 on REsimpli, it should also be the same on Carrot.

8. Once done comparing, click ‘Update’ on the top right corner.

9. Check all the pages ranking on Google that already exist on your REsimpli website. If not, check and copy them first.

10. Ensure all contents are duplicated - all items mentioned in step no. 7 are the same. Do the steps for the top 10 pages you are ranking for, while low-ranking pages optimize SEO before publishing them on REsimpli.

11. After copying the blog posts, redirect your domain from Carrot to the REsimpli website, the domain, for example, ‘theindianainvestor.com’.

12. Go to your domain provider, for example, GoDaddy. Open the domain (that is, theindianainvestor.com). A new window will open.

13. Click the ‘DNS tab; since it is now connected to ‘Carrot,’ delete carrot.com from the list. Confirm the deletion by clicking ‘Delete Record.’

14. Add a new record by clicking the ‘Add New Record’ button.

15. Under the ‘Type’ field, click the drop-down arrow and choose an option.

To understand which option you should choose, go to the REsimpli website dashboard.

16. Go to ‘Settings’ and click the ‘Custom Domain’ tab.

17. Copy-paste your domain name, for example, www.theindianainvestor.com, and click ‘Save.’ An instruction will pop up.

18. Follow the instructions in steps 1 and 2.

19. Hit ‘Save’. A notice will pop up, telling you that the update should take effect within an hour but could take up to 48 hours.

20. In an hour or so, the domain goes live. When the domain is live, and you search www.theindianainvestor.com, you should see the REsimpli website instead of the Carrot website.

Note:

  • There might be a short-term slight fluctuation, but it will take some time for Google to reassess the website and put the content over to the top position again. You might face a short-term period where it is not ranked at the time for some time.

  • When a website undergoes such a significant overhaul or platform switch, search engines like Google temporarily reassess the site rankings while a certain level of short-term fluctuation is expected.

  • If you follow the best practices, such as the one that has been shown in this video, it will lead to a long-term ranking improvement.

  • Be prepared for some rank volatility in the short term. However, this usually stabilizes after a few weeks
