How to Port Your Phone Numbers Into REsimpli

Written by Anthony Estrada

Overview

Porting means moving a phone number you already own from your current provider into REsimpli, so you keep the same number.

The process involves paperwork, a review, and a wait while your current provider releases the numbers.

Before You Start

Do not cancel your existing phone service. Your account with your current provider must stay active until the port is finished. Cancelling early can cause the whole request to fail.

Also check that:

  • Your phone number is active with your current provider

  • Your phone number is eligible to be ported

Steps

Step 1: Complete the Porting Documents

Two documents are needed to start:

  • Number Porting Letter, also called a Letter of Authorization or LOA

  • Number Porting File

Fill both in accurately. Details that do not match your provider's records are the main cause of delays.

Step 2: Gather Everything You Need

Collect the following:

  • Your completed Number Porting Letter (LOA)

  • Your completed Number Porting File

  • A copy of your most recent invoice from your current phone provider, such as CallRail, Grasshopper, RingCentral, or OpenPhone

  • The PIN for each phone number being ported, if your provider requires one

  • Your Account Number, if applicable

Without the correct PIN, your port request may be delayed or rejected by your current provider.

Step 3: Check the Sample Documents

If you are unsure how to fill in the forms, a worked sample is available:

Step 4: Submit Your Request

Send in:

  • Completed Number Porting Letter

  • Completed Number Porting File

  • Recent provider invoice

  • PIN or PINs

  • Account Number, if applicable

Your request then goes forward to begin the porting process.

Step 5: Document Review

Your documents are checked to confirm:

  • Your account information matches your current provider's records

  • Your phone numbers are active

  • Your invoice is current

  • Your PIN and account information are correct

  • All the required forms are complete

If anything is missing or incorrect, you may be asked for more documentation before the port can go ahead.

Step 6: The Porting Process

Once your request is submitted:

  1. Your current provider reviews it.

  2. If approved, they release your phone numbers.

  3. Your numbers are transferred to REsimpli.

How long this takes: anywhere from a few business days up to 4 weeks. It depends entirely on how quickly your current provider releases the numbers.

Step 7: Number Configuration

After your provider releases the numbers, they are configured in your REsimpli account. This usually takes 24 to 48 hours.

Once configuration is finished you will have:

  • Inbound and outbound calls

  • Inbound SMS

Outbound SMS is separate. It requires an approved 10DLC registration, and becomes available only after the carriers link your numbers to your approved campaign. That linking typically takes a few extra days.

Port-In Checklist

Check these off before submitting:

  • Completed Number Porting Letter (LOA)

  • Completed Number Porting File

  • Most recent invoice from your current phone provider

  • Account Number, if applicable

  • PIN for each phone number, if required

  • Phone numbers are active

  • Existing service remains active until the port is complete

Important Notes

  • Do not cancel your existing phone service until the port has completed successfully.

  • Everything you submit must match your current provider's records exactly. Mismatches cause delays and rejections.

  • A missing or incorrect PIN is one of the most common reasons a port is held up.

  • Porting time is driven by your current provider, not by REsimpli. Expect anywhere from a few business days to 4 weeks.

  • Calls and inbound texts work as soon as configuration finishes. Outbound SMS needs an approved 10DLC registration on top of that.

  • Keep your most recent invoice to hand. It has to be current, not an old one.

Troubleshooting

Your port request was rejected

  • The usual causes are information that does not match your provider's records, a missing or incorrect PIN, or an out-of-date invoice. Correct the details and resubmit.

Your port is taking a long time

  • Timing depends on how quickly your current provider releases your numbers. Anywhere from a few business days to 4 weeks is normal.

You were asked for more documentation

  • Something in your submission did not match or was incomplete. Provide what has been requested and the port can continue.

Your numbers have transferred but nothing works yet

  • Configuration takes 24 to 48 hours after your provider releases the numbers.

You can make calls and receive texts, but cannot send texts

  • Outbound SMS needs an approved 10DLC registration, and the carriers then need to link your numbers to your campaign. That takes a few extra days after configuration.

Your phone service stopped working mid-port

  • Your existing service must stay active until the port completes. If it was cancelled early, the request may have failed and will need to be started again.

Summary

You ported your phone numbers into REsimpli. You confirmed your numbers were active and eligible, completed the Number Porting Letter and Number Porting File, and gathered your recent invoice, PINs, and account number. After your documents were reviewed and your current provider released the numbers, they were configured in your account within 24 to 48 hours, giving you calls and inbound texts, with outbound SMS following once your 10DLC campaign was linked.
