How to Create a Group Internal Chat in REsimpli

Written by Anthony Estrada

Overview

A group chat lets you talk to several team members at once from the Internal tab of your Inbox.

Once the group is created you can add more people, reply in threads, mention specific team members, and share files.

Steps

Step 1: Open the Internal tab

  1. Hover over the left side panel and click Inbox.

  2. Click Internal.

You will see all your existing chats — both private one-to-one chats and group chats.

Step 2: Start a new chat

  1. Click the new conversation button.

  2. Click Add New.

Step 3: Select your team members

Select the team members you want in the chat.

Selecting more than one person creates a group chat. Selecting one gives you a private one-to-one chat instead.

Step 4: Click Add Users

Click Add Users.

Your new group chat appears, and you will see the number of participants in it.

Step 5: Use the group chat

From inside the conversation you can:

  • Add more people to the chat

  • Start a thread on a message

  • Mention specific team members so they know a message is for them

  • Attach a file

  • Add emojis

  • Translate a message to Spanish

Important Notes

  • The number of people you select decides the chat type. More than one creates a group; exactly one creates a private chat.

  • Check the participant count before posting. It is displayed on the chat, and it is the quickest way to confirm who can read what you are about to write.

  • Mention someone when a message is meant for them. In a busy group chat, an unmentioned message is easy to scroll past.

  • Use threads rather than replying in the main conversation. A threaded reply stays attached to the message it answers instead of landing at the bottom.

  • You can add people after the group is created, so you do not need the full list up front.

  • Anyone added to a group chat becomes part of that conversation. Consider what has already been said before adding someone new.

Troubleshooting

You created a private chat instead of a group

  • You selected only one person. Start again and select more than one.

A team member is not in the list

  • Check they have been added as a user on the account, under Manage Users and Roles.

You need to add someone to an existing group

  • Open the conversation and add them. You do not need to create a new chat.

Your reply is not attached to the message it answers

  • Start a thread on that message rather than typing in the main message box.

A team member says they missed a message meant for them

  • Mention them in the message. Group chats move quickly and an unmentioned message is easy to miss.

You cannot find a group chat

  • Check you are on the Internal tab. If it is still missing, it may have been archived — filter by Activity Status and Archived.

Summary

You created a group internal chat. You opened your Inbox, clicked Internal, clicked Add New, selected the team members you wanted, and clicked Add Users. The new chat showed the number of participants, and from inside it you could add more people, start threads, mention specific team members, attach files, add emojis, and translate a message to Spanish.
