How to Attach a File in an Internal Chat in REsimpli

Written by Anthony Estrada

Overview

You can share files — images, documents, anything you need your team to see — inside an internal chat.

Everything shared is collected in one place on the conversation, so your team can find a file later without scrolling back through the messages.

Steps

Step 1: Open the chat

  1. Hover over the left side panel and click Inbox.

  2. Click Internal.

  3. Open the chat you want to share the file in.

Step 2: Add your text

Type your message in the message box.

Step 3: Click the attachment icon

Click the attachment icon in the message box.

Step 4: Choose your file

Select the file you want to send — for example an image.

Step 5: Send it

Send the message.

The file now appears in the conversation.

Finding Files Shared in a Chat

Rather than scrolling back through the messages, open the files section on the conversation.

This collects everything shared by everyone in the chat.

Click a file and you are taken to a separate page to view or access it.

Important Notes

  • Anyone in the chat can see the files shared in it. Check the participant count before sharing anything sensitive.

  • The files list is the fast way to find something. In an active conversation, a file shared last week is a long way up the message history.

  • Clicking a file opens it on a separate page, so you leave the conversation to view it.

  • Files stay available on the conversation for as long as the chat exists.

  • Anyone added to the chat later becomes able to see what has already been shared. Bear that in mind before adding someone to an existing conversation.

Troubleshooting

You cannot see the attachment icon

  • Type your message text first. The icon sits in the message box alongside the other options.

Your file did not send

  • Send the message itself. Choosing the file stages it; sending the message is what shares it.

You cannot find a file a colleague shared

  • Open the files section on the conversation rather than scrolling the messages.

Clicking a file took you away from the chat

  • That is expected — files open on a separate page. Go back to return to the conversation.

The wrong people can see a file

  • Check who is in the chat. A file shared in a group chat is visible to every participant, including anyone added afterwards.

You want to share a file with only one person

  • Send it in a one-to-one chat rather than a group chat.

Summary

You shared a file in an internal chat. You opened your Inbox, clicked Internal, opened the chat, typed your message, clicked the attachment icon, chose your file, and sent it. The file appeared in the conversation and was added to the chat's files section, where anyone in the chat can open it.
