Overview
Marketing campaigns record where your leads came from, so you can track which marketing is working and keep your records organised.
You can create campaigns for your leads, buyers, agents, and vendors, and you can create as many as you need.
A campaign does not need a phone number attached. This catches people out — you can create campaigns freely without buying a number for each one.
Steps
Step 1: Open Marketing Campaigns
Go to Settings.
Select Communication and Marketing.
Click Marketing Campaigns.
You will see all your existing campaigns for leads, buyers, agents, and vendors.
Step 2: Add a new campaign
Click the add campaign button and fill in the information.
Step 3: Choose what the campaign is for
If the campaign is for your leads, select the Leads option.
Step 4: Select the marketing source
Select the marketing source, or lead source, for this campaign — for example Referrals.
Step 5: Add the campaign
Add the marketing campaign.
Step 6: Decide about a phone number
You can link a phone number to the campaign, but it is not required.
Leave it blank if you do not need one.
Using a Campaign on a Lead
Once the campaign exists, you can attach leads to it.
Add a lead as normal and fill in the details.
Select the marketing campaign you created — for example Referrals.
Fill in the market, product, pipeline, and contact details.
The lead is now attached to that campaign.
Important Notes
You do not need a phone number for every campaign. People assume they have to buy a number per campaign. They do not.
You can create as many campaigns as you need, which is what makes source tracking useful — a handful of vague campaigns tells you very little.
Campaigns cover leads, buyers, agents, and vendors, not just seller leads.
The campaign is set on the lead when it is created. Getting it right at that moment is what makes your source reporting trustworthy later.
Campaigns are also how automations reach your leads. A lead on a different campaign from the one your automation is attached to will not be enrolled — so campaign choice affects follow-up, not just reporting.
Your source reporting is only as good as your consistency. If some leads are added without a campaign, any comparison between sources will be misleading.
Troubleshooting
You think you need a phone number to create a campaign
You do not. Leave the phone number blank.
Your campaign is not available when adding a lead
Check the campaign was created for the right contact type. A campaign set up for buyers will not appear on a seller lead.
Your source reporting looks wrong
Check whether leads are being added without a campaign selected. Blank campaigns do not appear in the comparison, so the sources you do record will look better than they are.
An automation is not running on leads from a campaign
Check that the campaign on the lead matches the campaign the automation is attached to.
You have too many campaigns to manage
Campaigns are worth keeping specific, but only if the people adding leads can pick the right one. If your team is guessing, you have too many.
You need to change a lead's campaign after it was created
Edit the lead and select the correct campaign.
Summary
You created a marketing campaign. You went to Settings → Communication and Marketing → Marketing Campaigns, added a new campaign, chose Leads, selected the marketing source such as Referrals, and left the phone number blank since one is not required. You then attached a lead to the campaign when adding it, along with the market, product, pipeline, and contact details.
