Overview
You can change how a lead is laid out — which tabs appear, what order they are in, and how the sections inside the lead are ordered.
This is also where you set the default response type, which decides whether the message box at the bottom of a lead writes a note or sends an SMS.
Steps
Step 1: Open any lead
Open any lead in your pipeline. The settings apply from here.
Step 2: Click the gear icon
Click the gear icon beside Automations.
Step 3: Change what you need
From here you can adjust:
Setting | What it does |
Details tab order | Hide tabs you do not use, or rearrange the order they appear in |
Team members | Reorder the team members shown on the Team tab |
Property details order | Reorder the property detail sections |
Activity log | Reorder the activity log |
Default response type | Set whether the message box defaults to Add Note or Send SMS |
The Default Response Type
This is the setting most worth getting right.
The message box at the bottom of a lead can either add a note or send an SMS. The default response type decides which one it does when you start typing.
If the default is SMS and you assume it is a note, you will text the seller by accident. Set this to whichever your team does more often, and make sure everyone knows which it is.
Important Notes
Hiding tabs is as useful as reordering them. A lead with tabs your team never opens is harder to work than one showing only what they need.
Put the tabs you use most first. If your team lives in Files and Tasks, those should not be at the end of the row.
Tab order explains why documentation may not match your screen. Guides describe the default order — if yours has been rearranged, a tab will not be where an article says it is.
The default response type is a real hazard, not a preference. Note and SMS look similar in the same box, and one of them goes to the seller.
Agree the layout as a team rather than each person arranging their own, so you can talk each other through a lead over the phone.
Troubleshooting
You cannot find a tab an article refers to
Check whether it has been hidden or reordered. Open the gear icon beside Automations and look at the details tab order.
You sent a text when you meant to write a note
Check the default response type. If it is set to Send SMS, the message box texts the seller unless you change it each time.
Your team cannot find things on a lead
Someone may have rearranged the layout. Agree one arrangement and apply it consistently.
The property details are in an awkward order
Reorder them from the same gear icon.
You want a tab back that you hid
Open the gear icon and unhide it from the details tab order.

Summary
You rearranged the layout inside a lead. You opened a lead, clicked the gear icon beside Automations, and adjusted the details tab order — hiding or reordering tabs — along with the team members on the Team tab, the property details order, and the activity log. You also set the default response type, deciding whether the message box adds a note or sends an SMS.
