How to Add a Custom Field to All Your Leads in REsimpli

Written by Anthony Estrada

Overview

When you add a custom field, it appears on your existing leads automatically — not just on new ones.

That is what makes this a bulk update. There is no separate action to run and nothing to apply retroactively.

This adds the field, not the answers. Every existing lead gets the new field, and it is empty until someone fills it in.

Steps

Step 1: Open Custom Fields

  1. Hover over More.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Click Customization Settings.

  4. Click Custom Fields.

Step 2: Choose the section

Choose the section you want to add the field to — for example a section under your Leads or Sellers.

Step 3: Enter the field title

Enter the custom field title.

This is the label your team sees on every lead, so make it unambiguous.

Step 4: Add placeholder text

Enter placeholder text to show inside the empty field.

This is where you tell people what to put in it.

Step 5: Choose the field type

Choose the custom field type:

  • Single line — short answers

  • Multiline — longer notes

  • Number

  • Checklist

and others.

Step 6: Click Add Custom Field

Click Add Custom Field.

Step 7: Check a lead

Open any property. The new field appears in the last section.

Important Notes

  • New custom fields apply to existing leads automatically. This is unusual — most settings in REsimpli only affect records created afterwards. Custom fields are the exception.

  • You are adding the field, not filling it. Existing leads get an empty field. If you need the answers populated on historic leads, that is separate work.

  • The field appears in the last section. Adding several fields over time leaves your most recent additions at the bottom of the lead, which may not be where they are most useful.

  • Choose the field type deliberately. A number field can be filtered and compared; the same information typed into a multiline box cannot be used the same way.

  • Write placeholder text as an instruction. It is the only guidance your team gets at the point of entry, and it is what stops the same field being filled in three different ways.

  • Deleting a custom field is permanent and removes every answer recorded against it, on every lead. Add carefully rather than experimenting.

Troubleshooting

Your new field is not on a lead

  • Scroll down. New fields are added to the last section.

You expected existing leads to have answers

  • Adding a field does not populate it. Every lead gets the field empty.

You cannot filter usefully on a field

  • Check the field type. Free-text answers cannot be compared the way numbers and checklists can.

Your team is filling a field inconsistently

  • Improve the placeholder text, or change the field type to a checklist so the options are fixed.

You want to remove a field you added by mistake

  • Deleting removes the field and every answer stored in it, permanently. If the field has been in use, consider whether the recorded answers matter before deleting.

Imported answers did not come through

  • On import, the column heading must match the custom question text exactly, or the column is not mapped.

Summary

You added a custom field across all your leads. You went to More → Settings → Customization Settings → Custom Fields, chose the section, entered the custom field title and placeholder text, picked the custom field type such as multiline, and clicked Add Custom Field. The field appeared on your existing leads in the last section, empty and ready to fill in.
