How to Rename a Custom Role in REsimpli

Written by Anthony Estrada

Overview

You can rename a custom role — for example expanding an abbreviation like VA into Virtual Assistant so it is clear to everyone on the team.

Renaming changes the label only. The role keeps its permissions and everyone assigned to it stays assigned.

Steps

Step 1: Open Settings

Click Settings at the bottom left.

Step 2: Open Manage Users and Roles

Click Manage Users and Roles.

Step 3: Go to Roles

Click Roles.

Step 4: Find the role

Locate the custom role you want to rename.

Step 5: Edit the name

Change the name to what you want.

Step 6: Click Update

Click Update to save.

Important Notes

  • Renaming is safe. It changes the label, not the permissions, and nobody is unassigned by it.

  • Role names appear all over the product. They are what you assign leads by, what phone number access is granted by, and what automations assign tasks to. A name only one person understands causes friction everywhere.

  • Write out abbreviations. "VA" means nothing to a new hire; "Virtual Assistant" does. This is exactly the kind of tidying worth doing early.

  • This applies to custom roles. The system roles that come with the account behave differently.

  • Renaming is the right move when a role's purpose has drifted. Better than creating a second role and leaving the old one half-used.

  • Tell your team when you rename a role, since the old name may appear in their own notes and processes.

Troubleshooting

You cannot find the role

  • Check you are on the Roles tab under Manage Users and Roles, not the Users tab.

Your change did not save

  • Click Update after editing the name.

You cannot edit a role

  • Check whether it is a custom role. System roles that come with the account are not editable in the same way.

People are assigned to the role — will renaming unassign them?

  • No. Renaming changes the label only. Assignments, permissions, and automations are unaffected.

Your team is confused by role names

  • Rename them to something self-explanatory. Roles are visible when assigning leads, granting phone number access, and configuring automations.

You want to remove a role instead

  • Deleting is a different action from renaming, and needs more care — check who holds the role and what depends on it first.
