How Two-Step Website Forms Create Leads in REsimpli

Step 1 creates the lead, step 2 adds to it — merged into one record if they match within 30 minutes.

Overview

A two-step website form sends two separate submissions. REsimpli can recognise them as the same person and merge them into one lead, rather than creating two.

The point is to keep partial leads — someone who fills in step 1 and leaves is still captured — without generating a duplicate when they come back and finish.

How it works

  1. Step 1 creates the lead, even if the visitor never completes the form.

  2. Step 2 adds the rest of the information.

  3. If the submissions match and step 2 arrives within 30 minutes, REsimpli merges them into the same lead.

  4. If the visitor never completes step 2, the partial lead from step 1 stays available for follow-up.

  5. If the two submissions contain clearly different property addresses, REsimpli may create separate leads — because they are different properties.

Important Notes

  • The matching window is 30 minutes. A visitor who returns the next day produces a second lead.

  • Matching uses identifying information such as the property address or contact number.

  • One webhook or two both work. You can send both steps through a single webhook, or use separate webhooks for each.

  • Different addresses mean different leads, and that is intended behaviour rather than a fault.

  • Notes added through a web form when updating an existing lead appear on the original lead record.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if the visitor completes only step 1?

The lead is still created from what they submitted. That is the point of splitting the form.

Do I have to use one webhook?

No. One webhook works, and separate webhooks for the two steps also work.

What if the two steps contain different addresses?

If they represent different properties, separate leads can be created.

Troubleshooting

You are getting duplicate leads from one visitor

  1. Confirm both submissions happened inside the 30-minute window.

  2. Check the identifying values being sent in each step — if the address or phone number differs between them, REsimpli cannot match them.

  3. If duplicates continue, capture both payloads and send a sample lead to support.

Step 1 submissions are not creating leads

  • They should. Check the webhook for step 1 independently of step 2.
